‘Gimmie’ is the new single from Nick Ward. On the surface, it’s an instant pop hit, but more discerning listeners will pick up on his sophisticated exploration of the nuances of over-analysis. “When I was 17, I spent most of my time and focus trying to make sense of who I was,” he explains. “I hadn't come out to anyone except for my best friend. It's a time in my life that I keep coming back to when writing music, just because of how potent those emotions are. I hadn't come to terms with fluidity in sexuality… wanted to make something for everyone who's been in that spot.” The track is at first driven by pounding synth bass and crunchy percussion, before gentle acoustic guitar lulls you into a false sense of melodic security that quickly changes gear as we plunge into a distorted, punky instrumental that returns in full force for the track’s climax.
